Delmar Farmers Market Hires New Market Manager in Preparation for 2016 Season; Opening Day Set for May 7

It’s another season of great food, produce, crafts and community activities as the Delmar Farmers Market officially opens on May 7, at the Bethlehem Middle School in Delmar. “The market enters in eighth season with a new manager at the helm and will offer the same great community spirit that customers and vendors have come to expect,” said Mark Warford, the market’s President of the Board of Directors.

Ken Myer will serve as the new market manager and will be on hand Saturday to introduce himself to the community when the market opens at 9 a.m. Before taking on this new role, Ken was the Corporate Chef for Equinox in Albany. He is currently the President and a glass designer at Alkemy Stained Glass here in Delmar. A food industry veteran for 35 years, Ken has worked in a variety of settings, including resorts, a 4-star hotel, and even owning his own restaurant in Pittsburgh, PA.

“We’re very pleased that Ken has joined the market team,” says Warford. “His passion for local food combined with his artistic vision make him a great addition. We had a busy off season, conducting a search for the new manager, redesigning our web site, and adding three new board members. We were thrilled to find people who share our passion for being the best producer-only market in the region.”

As for Ken, he shares, “I am looking forward to working to sustain what the market has done since the beginning and to build on that success. I’m honored to be working with a team so dedicated to providing a great atmosphere for people to meet their friends and neighbors and get to know our vendors.” Myer finishes, “I am looking forward to opening day as we work together to make the market a great place for the community to come together every Saturday.”

This year the Delmar Farmers Market celebrates its 8th anniversary and will again feature more than 50 local vendors providing a diverse offering of seasonal produce and prepared foods and crafts, while promoting sustainable farming, environmental awareness, and healthy foods in support of local and fair trade businesses.

After seven years in operation the market has gained national recognition. For the past three years the market has been ranked in the top 101 Farmers Markets in America by the Daily Meal web site.
